Doug Jones bustin' a move, and daaaaamn that skinny white boy can dance! I am thoroughly impressed and maybe a little turned on.

Great. This has completely rendered me incapable of doing any more work for the rest of the day.

George Lucas wants to turn the Star Wars saga into 3D.

I don't know how many times I need to keep saying this, but George Lucas, STOP IT, YOU CRAZY OLD MAN, STOP.

Ohmyholygoodgod: life-sized bust of the Angel of Death.

LIFE. SIZED.

So, basically, Doug Jones's head for $569.99. Can you imagine having that on your shelf and creeping you the fuck out every time you look at it?

too hot to think
I wanted to see The Dark Knight this weekend but damn, it is just too fucking hot to go out. How do people go outside in this weather? I don't understand it.

This week will be unnaturally filled with things to do, though. On Wednesday, I may join [info]faerie_soul, who is visiting from New Orleans, in drinking with her firemen and cop friends. ...I...have never known any firemen or cops, much less gone out drinking with them. This is very intimidating for two reasons. 1) They are firemen and cops, and 2) NYC firemen and cops are all HOT and I have no reason to be around men who are that hot.

Thursday, MY VACATION STARTS. HUZZAH.

And Thursday is the Cherry Poppin' Daddies concert at B.B. King's, which I will be attending with Da Crew, and hopefully there will be some good times shared before the guys leave.

Then I have a week of free time and no idea what to do with it. It is in danger of being slept away unless I make the effort to go out and do stuff and go places.

I don't know if I want to spend my birthday alone or not. Plans or non-plans pending.

Pick a number. Any number.

missed the bandwagon the first time around...
So, I acquainted myself with discs 2 and 3 of the first season of "Doctor Who," and by 'first season' I mean the one with Christopher Eccleston, and...wait a minute, nobody told me this show would make me cry. Episodes "Father's Day" and then the two-parter of "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances" -- man, that was great. I guess the series got off to a slow start for me when I saw the first few episodes on the Sci-Fi Channel, and it didn't really hold my attention, but after renting these discs and giving it a second chance, I see now why people became hooked on it.

Gas masks. *shudder*

THE LONDON ODYSSEY: DAY 7 -- LAST DAY
Seriously, I have to put an end to this, so the end comes now. I've been putting this off for the longest time because I just wasn't ready to stop. But now I need to. It's all about closure.

Photos will be up at [info]she_was_stereo.

Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6

Full trailer for Frank Miller's The Spirit

Uhh...wow. I don't think I've ever felt this let down by a trailer. What the hell was that? It's trying hard to look hot but I'm just not feeling it. Now I'm thinking he should've kept it in black-and-white like in the teaser trailer. Then again, my sudden apathy could also be from all these actresses whose acting I don't care for.

This Saturday I might go see The Dark Knight at an early showing, and then if I'm not too depressed by it, I'll top it off with a second viewing of Hellboy II. I've had Barry Manilow's "Can't Smile Without You" in my head for a week now and it must be extricated.

Eta: Angel of Death 13" deluxe figure. Omg. Waaaaaaaaant.

THIS JUST IN:
So, director Stephen Sommers likes girls with big boobs, and Michael Bay doesn't like skinny girls. Dammit, I am never going to get a part in their movies now!

Megan Fox says: "I eat red velvet cake before I go to bed every night. If you eat meals later, you'll put on weight faster, so I had dinner at 10pm."

I... okay.

's not like i have money to burn or anything.
Things From Another World is a pretty cool store based in Oregon. Tip: if you're ordering from them for the first time, sign up for the newsletter first -- they'll email you a discount code for free shipping just for that. Then you can place your order. I didn't see the email until after I placed my order, but then I asked customer service if it was possible to apply the discount, and they did! Which was swell, because shipping came up to $12 and change. Went a little nutso with Hellboy stuff on sale. Shut up, don't judge me, you'll be jealous of my B.P.R.D. patch.

Hot Topic sent me a $10 birthday coupon, so I bought this Dark Knight Joker t-shirt which I was SO HAPPY to find in a youth size. This is why Hot Topic is a blessing in most cases. It serves geekery as well as bandom.

And this is for [info]dj_intheuk: look, they've got Hulk t-shirts in women's and youth sizes! Even one with Hulk vs. Iron Man. ;)

feelin' groovy
I have 2,008 songs on my MP3 player. If you want one, choose a number from 1 to 2,008, and I'll upload it. My main playlist is mostly random because it remembers things in the order of when I add them. There are chunks of complete albums here and there, and some parts are inexplicably alphabetized, but that's it.

GO.

Aaaaaand I just gouged my thigh with the metal corner of my keyboard drawer. Fuck ow.

augh!
Commence searching for Hellboy merchandise.

I've already ordered this two-inch Abe Sapien, which is godlessly adorable, and this PVC set of good guys and bad guys from the first movie on sale. Kroenen! I do love that clockwork Nazi.

I'm debating whether I should get the Johann Krauss or Angel of Death bobblehead.

I'm pretty much going to give up on finding a t-shirt in a small women's size. Ruling out Abe Sapien t-shirts altogether, so I might as well quit pining.

snap judgements
Operation Triple Feature: SUCCESS.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army: Marry me, Fishstick Abe Sapien. Drunken sing-alongs to Barry Manilow aaaaaaaahahahah. (The elves and trolls might draw comparison to The Lord of the Rings, but really, elves and trolls are part of general folklore, not just Tolkien's world.) The opening sequence was an incredibly enchanting bit of storytelling. And there were some of the most frightening, crazy, and beautiful creatures ever made -- G del T, you have my heart. Hellboy kicking ass is always, always awesome. Also, it's about damn time we had an awesome German good guy in Johann Krauss, even if he is just ectoplasm! Best last line EVER! I want a Hellboy III right now.

WALL-E: I WANT TO HUG HIS LITTLE METAL CUBIC SELF. A good percentage of the movie played like a silent film, which was just absolutely brilliant. EVE? Kickass. Ohhh she is so kickass. Figures that the best "female" character that I've seen in a long time is a robot. And yes, I cried. I knew I was going to cry anyway, so. Oh god, M-O WAS HILARIOUS, and so was the band of reject robots, especially the massage machine that goes berserk. Bonus points for using R2-D2 beeping, the Apple Mac startup sound, Pong, and old-school video game graphics during the credits. More bonus points for using Louis Armstrong's "La Vie en Rose." Hearts hearts hearts.

The Incredible Hulk: The only thing I really had to suspend my disbelief about was not the fact that there was a big green CGI Hulk onscreen, but that Liv Tyler was a microbiologist of some sort. But little things that tickled me: Purple stretchy pants! Lou Ferrigno! Tony Stark! Code names Mr. Blue and Mr. Green, plus a pizza called Mr. Pink! (Okay, so Mr. Green was never a Reservoir Dog in the flesh, but still. Colors.) And...there was a reference that Tim Roth made offhandedly but I can't remember what it was. Hulk going all Smashy McSmashertons actually drew applause from the audience, and I must admit, it was pretty damn cool. And I can has Ed Norton shirtless all the time plzkthnx.

Verdict: I enjoyed them all.

And hey, I'm feeling fine! Just a bit sleepy and mildly throbby behind the eyeballs. Three movies that relied heavily on visuals was a lot to take in.

Oh yeah, a note about my fellow moviegoers. I knew to expect kids when seeing WALL-E. And the dad and his daughter sitting next to me were cute for a while. But parents have to teach their kids that discussing what's going on in nearly every scene while in theater IS NOT THE THING TO DO. They were talking in low voices, but not even whispers. What the hell. You save that for the couch and DVD.

half a world away
I finally got a phone call from my mother tonight! Well, actually, she called my cell phone (from her cell phone) so the correct number would register and then hung up, and then when I realized who'd called, I redialed on the land line. And there was a good reception! No getting cut off every 30 seconds like before.

So, basically she's fine, and so is her cottage and also my uncle's house. The storm lasted for about six hours, from at night to early morning. There was water seepage under the door and leakage from the roof, but nothing was seriously damaged. A sturdy little concrete block, is her cottage. The banana trees around her, however, were blown down by the wind, which she said was the worst part. She took photos of the surrounding area before and after the storm to compare. There was no electricity for six days afterward. I asked her how she survived that, but it was no big deal (?!). Her food was limited and spoiled, so she gave most of it to the stray dogs. People have been warned not to eat the fish, because in the town next to hers, dead bodies -- from the local flooded cemetery -- have washed up on the shores, so, yeah, ew. And now she said that "dragons" are living in the space between the roof and the ceiling of her cottage. By "dragons," she means bayawaks, or little Asian water monitors. They usually live in trees, but now the trees are gone, so her roof is their higher ground. NOT PLEASANT.

Other towns just north of her (like the one with the flooded cemetery) were hit the hardest, especially in the mountainous regions, so she was very, very lucky, what with being close to the sea. Whew.

And, well, apparently life goes on, like it does. She celebrated her birthday on Sunday in the city at a hotel, complements of my aunt, her sister. And today (it was 11:30 p.m. here when she called, 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning over there) she's going to a wedding, some relative of my grandmother's. Oh, and two of my cousins (grown man and woman) got into a fight with each other and my mother was "sort of" the referee and bruises were had all around. DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY: I HAS IT. You have no idea. Good thing they're all over there. Freakin' crazy Filipinos.

So, in any case, yay. Relieved. Like my mood icon says.

mooooovies.
I said I was never going to attempt watching three movies in a row again because that sort of marathon viewing gives me extreme headache + nausea, but tomorrow I want do some serious theater hopping at the Court St. Regal. Hellboy 2 at 11:00 a.m., WALL-E at 2:05, and The Incredible Hulk at 3:50. At least WALL-E is only an hour and a half, the other two are roughly two hours each. The last time I did three-in-a-row, I saw King Kong, The Chronicles of Narnia, and that thing with Colin Farrell and Pocahontas or whatever. These epic movies added up to like a billion hours so I got sick afterwards (plus the Colin Farrell movie looked like it was filmed with a handheld camera -- puuuuke).

So. Any Brooklynites/Newyorkerites want to join me for any or all of these movies? I promise I won't throw up on you. I'll be a lot more prepared with starches and sugar to keep me level. Although it'll really be funny if after The Incredible Hulk I get sick again, because it'll be the third Ed Norton movie that would have that effect on me, Fight Club and American History X being the first two.

2. Glenn Miller - "Chattanooga Choo Choo" (1941)

3. Louis Jordan - "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie" (1946)

Please to be enjoying some Count Basie boogies: "St. Louis Boogie" and "House Rent Boogie", both from 1947.

Unrelated: Gawd, I am so fucking behind on all the summer movies that I said I wanted to see. I think I'll catch a matinee of something this Saturday and spend the rest of the day theater hopping.
